The Case of the Mysteries Pumpkin Plant

This story really starts last year. H-moms sister grew a bunch of pumpkins and after Thanksgiving she brought a bunch over for h-mom to feed us. Well for a few weeks, every day h-mom would bring out a pumpkin or 2 and smash them on the ground and they would break open and many goats would attack it. Kali had an orange forehead for a month. Anyway, h-mom decided to plant some this year just for us goaties. So she cleared an area and planted some pumpkin seeds. Well a few seeds came up and there is the hope of pumpkins from them, but none of them look like the pumpkin plant that came up in our pen. It is what they call a volunteer because no one planted it, it just came up from seeds falling in the grass last year during our feasting. The thing that surprised h-mom the most is that none of us mess with the plant. It has grown to an enormous size, must be all the goat poo fertilizer. It looks delicious, but in fact it has a bit of a strange taste so we steer clear, but don't tell her. She thinks we are being extra good and I hate to disillusion her. Now what will happen as the actual pumpkins develop is undecided, but for now the plant is safe.

long, hot summer daze

It has been a while since my last entry and my only excuse is the stupor that besets one in the heat of a Texas summer. A few things have happened recently, but to be honest not that much. Two more daughters sold and gone to live in Nemo and 2 more daughters sold to neighbor across the street. I guess Penny and Toby were well behaved so they wanted a couple more. H-mom sold them Cindy and Myrna and they went over to their new home Wednesday afternoon and later that afternoon low and behold, here comes not 1 not 2 but all 4 goat kids from across the street. H-mom called the neighbor and between them and a bucket of feed, they got all 4 to follow them back across the street. A few hours later, I look up and here comes Cindy again. This time the neighbor found the place they were getting out and closed it up tight. Haven't had any unexpected visitors since.
H-pop and dil Tashia are going fishing in the pond, so I am off to see how they fare.
